Mark your Calendars!

Sorry for the lack of posting recently, things have been pretty hectic here at The Broken Plate in the past few weeks. Between craft show prep, Jason's Business, the kid, and the lack of energy caused by the future kid, I have no time to hunt for cool things to share. I am hoping to get back on track soon.

I am busilly preparing for the big sales next week. The Towson Metal's and Jewelry Club sale is as follows:

10-7 p.m., Tuesday, May 8 ~ Cook Library
10-7 p.m., Wednesday, May 9 ~ University Union
10-7 p.m., Thursday, May 10 ~ University Union
9-9 p.m., Friday, May 11 ~ Center for the Arts
9-9 p.m., Saturday, May 12 ~ Center for the Arts
The ceramics and printmaking sale is May 11-12 too!
The Squidfire Spring Art Mart is Saturday, May 12 in Mount Vernon Square Park. It should be lots of fun!
ArtStar Craft Bazaar is June 2-3. I am getting tired just thinking about it!
OK, Back to work...

Spring Bada-Bing Wrap up!

My trip to Richmond for Spring Bada-Bing was not as lucrative as I would have hoped, but we had a good time discovering a little bit of Richmond, eating good food, and meeting some cool folks. Baltimore was all over Spring Bada-Bing, with vendors like Fort Cloudy, Squidfire, and Red Prairie Press. Etsy was representing in VA. EtsyLabs had a booth to spread the handmade love! I met Kate Black from Bad Buttons and Danielle Maveal , her jewelry is just as cute in person.
I am defiantly noticing new products for children and baby that never caught my eye before. I had the pleasure of being set up next to Shannon Gingras of Shannon By Hand, a new mom with awesome baby stuff . I broke down and bought a onesie from her with a green leopard print tie sewn on it. A few doors down was Batteries not Required, they make really nice interactive quilts for kids...if only I sold a few more necklaces. Finally found some nice prints for the baby's room from Bee's Knees Studio , really cute animals and birds. I met Leila from Cherry Momma and her cool little girl, she sells all kinds of cool punk rock kid stuff.
The Richmond Craft Mafia couldn't have been more helpful and kind. Check out the mention on the RCM blog! Thanks for the doughnuts and H2O, inviting the local stores, and picking such a cool venue. Thanks for the help planning and kind words to Maryellen of Twist Style!
Thanks to my sister and Al for coming with and helping me out! When I strike it rich, I will repay you with a lifetime of breakfast buffet and Wawa gift certificates!

Kodak 1881

I know I said that would shut up for a few days, but I HAD to share this, the Kodak 1881 pocket sized digital camera! From GeekSugar, "The brainchild of designer Lindsey Pickett, the 1881 is a pocket-sized digital camera that pays homage to heritage and heirloom objects with a vintage chic form. It happens to take the shape of a circular locket and has been described as a "high tech device hidden in a low tech disguise." Wow, my two loves in one cute form!

Off to Richmond!

I am taking a blogging break for a few days to go peddle my wares in Richmond. Talk to you on Monday!

I'm In!!!!

Amidst my manic preparation for Spring Bada-Bing, I received notice that I was accepted to the Art Star Craft Bazaar! The show will take place June 2nd, from 11-7pm & June 3rd, from 11-5pm. Vendors will be set up along The Liberties Walk (1030-1040 N 2nd St.) & Germantown Avenue (which runs between Hancock St. & 2nd St.). There are 100 vendors this year and will also have arts/crafts demonstrations in a variety of techniques. Come for the crafts, stay for the cheese steak!

Wedding pills

"Wedding Pills, designed by Ted Noten, are golden alternative wedding rings with a traditional inscription with the name of the loved one and the marriage date. They can be taken with a glass of vodka or other beverage. Because of the intimate process these pills undergo a fundamental question is laid bare: are we going to search for it or not, it may provoke the first marriage crisis. And with whom it agrees, the ritual can be repeated after each crisis – a nice reconciliation ritual." Love this!

Baby Registry - You're Welcome Mom!!!

The whole idea of having a baby/wedding shower, birthday party, or housewarming party has always made me a bit uncomfortable. The thought of inviting my friends and family over for cake to get presents just seems a little self-indulgent to me. That said, having a little human inside of me, one that will have endless needs for at least the next 18 years, makes me rethink the idea of baby gift registry. I'm in! Plus I have to admit, picking stuff out was fun! Because I could not seem to convince admin at Etsy that a baby registry was in order, I was forced to go to Target. I will list some fun things here too...
Bug Hat from Glitz Concepts.
Future CEO onsie from Roslynscloset.
Anything Tampa Bay Lighting for Jason. =)

Baby Converse by Curious Workmanship.
Anything cute from Baltimores own FortCloudy.

Reversible Pouch Sling for Newborn Baby to Toddler by Gorgeousbaby
Have I forgotten Anything?

Wonderland Retreat

Alison Gordon -- crafter of Wonderland Q, co-organizer of Bazaar Bizarre and Sampler Contributor Relations superhero very recently faced a medical emergency. Like many other independent artists and crafters, Alison is without health insurance. Wonderland Retreat was created by her friends to help ease the financial burden of her ordeal. If you would like to help a fellow crafter, please consider purchasing an item. This cool new Broken Plate Pendant is now available for purchase at Wonderland Retreat. All proceeds will go to Alison to cover her unexpected medical expenses.

ETC

OH, to have disposable income...my house would be so ugly! Armchairs from ETC creations found via Design*Sponge.

Just a few Thursday Time Machine Finds...

Magic Lucky Big Bean from Girlygurl.

Found Object Italian Decanter Necklace from artkatstudio.

High in the trees shoulder tote from homegrownskinny.

Mock Craft Display

I set up a mock display today, I am pretty happy with it. I have so many pieces, it was hard to narrow down the selection to avoid an overwhelming display. They are separated in three boxes: warm colors, cool colors, and monochromatic/text pieces. I think that will help make them easier to navigate. Suggestions?

New display and unbroken plates?

Sorry no post yesterday, I was busily working on display ideas for the spring craft show season. Above is a picture of a display I made using a Pier One tray on it's side. I think it's pretty sexy. You may be suprised to see that I have un-broken ceramics in my house, but I am actually a big fan of the medium. The blue plate the left has numbered days, however. It was generously donated by Jennifer Wolfe (poetry3 of Etsy). Her shop is empty right now, but be sure to check back. I thought I would give it a small life as an apple platter before it became a necklace, it is just too pretty.
